Bentonite Clay for Digestion: Are You a Clay- Eater Yet?

Hello handbookers, welcome back to another post in the series dedicated to bentonite clay. We have covered how this volcanic ash is beneficial to the hair and to the face and today we are jumping right in with how advantageous it is for the digestive tract.

As Dr. David Brownstein said “all health begins and ends in the gastrointestinal tract.” When digestion is out of whack we can see a host of health issues that are unpleasant and even dangerous. Traditional medicines do not always help without severe side effects and this is when, those that are wise, turn to mumma nature for the answer. And oh did mumma bless us with bentonite clay.

What is Bentonite Clay?

This is one of those clays of the Earth known as healing clay. Bentonite is also known as Montmorillonite clay and the two names are used interchangeably. Montmorillonite is the main component in this clay and the name Bentonite is said to be named after the place where it exists in abundance.

This clay has been used for centuries in many places around the world– I’m talking long before recorded history. Ancient cultures understood the benefits for beauty and for health and so would use it both externally and internally. The clay is basically ash made from volcanoes… yeah this stuff is quite literally Earth! It does not require chemical processing and those that are aware of its properties use it as an almighty detox.

Bentonite Clay for Digestion

So, ok, us Westerners might frown upon people who eat clay. It is certainly not something that we are taught to look at as anything but weird, but today I am here to tell you that clay-eaters are on to something that is remarkable for our health.

Earth is our mother so if you think about it, it makes sense that she provides everything we need to not only survive but heal any ailment we are ever inflicted with. Bentonite clay is incredibly healing and boosts our immune system when taken internally. Clay also creates a powerful resistance from illness and when taken on a daily basis our body becomes strengthened.

Clay is not absorbed by the body and instead does the absorbing. It acts like a sponge as it passes through the body and sucks up all the unnecessary compounds like poisons, toxins, and unneeded metals. The clay does not stay in the body and nor does the toxins that it pulls out.

Another spectacular thing about bentonite clay is the wonderful nutrients including calcium, magnesium, silica, copper, iron, potassium, and sodium. The clay passes through the body, sucks up the bad while leaving all the wonderful minerals. Bentonite clay is naturally a negatively- charged ion so when ingested it binds to that which is oppositely charged which is those nasty poisons!

Bentonite Clay in the Age of Toxicity

If you have not heard, we are in the age of toxicity :(. Unfortunate, I know, but the best way to combat this is to take some consistent action. Educate ourselves and each other and look to cost- effective, natural ways to be as healthy as we possibly can. Health is such a beautiful thing!

Bentonite clay is superior in digestion because it:

  • Clears toxins, impurities, chemicals, metals
  • Promotes good bacteria and decreases bad bacteria in the gut
  • Assists the body’s eliminatory process
  • Balances the body when taken internally
  • Soothes the digestive tract
  • Remineralizes cells and tissue
  • Detoxes the body
  • Supports nutrient assimilation in the gut
  • Alkalizes the body
  • Attracts everything impure
  • Heals/reverses problems like IBS, leaky gut syndrome, constipation, nausea
  • Has nutrients that aid digestion

How to Take it Internally

It is said that you should only take clay that specifically says edible though many others say that so long as it is pure bentonite clay, you are good to go. I have taken Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay internally although it says external use only in capital letters on the back,it has been fine for me.

You should take this on an empty stomach and give 1-2 hours before taking other supplements or medication as it can make them not as effective (also is always best to check with your healthcare provider). Take a teaspoon of the powder and mix it in water. I put a teaspoon in my green drink most mornings and yes I eat this clay daily! Don’t worry it actually has a very mild taste and goes down easy peasy. You mustn’t use a metal cup/bowl because the metal reduces the potency of the clay.

Final Thoughts

We can’t escape toxins in this day and age. They lurk in our products, the air that we breathe, and much of the food that we eat. When we are overloaded with compounds that are not easy to break down we have those terrible digestion problems. Bentonite clay is a remarkable way to detox the system and is a powerful force in maintaining a healthy digestive track. Daily consumption can reverse any digestive woes and help us to be the essence of health. It is time to get on board with all those ancient civilizations and become clay-eaters.
