Jason Deodorant Review: Best Natural Deodorant that Works?

Hey Handbookers,

Welcome back to your favorite natural living blog! Today we are revisiting the topic of natural deodorant and also covering one of my favorite natural health brands: Jason.

Now, deodorant has always been a hot topic in the natural world because its one of the most controversial products we natural-lovers use. In fact, in the stereotypical view, natural-deodorant wearers get a load of stick (pun intended) for being smelly because their deodorant simply doesn’t work. Even though stereotypes are ridiculously unreasonable, they do exist for a reason.

Where The Natural Deodorant Stereotype Comes From

I remember back in the day– I’m talking circa 2006 and 2007– when I first began using non-conventional deodorants. At the time, my underarms were near-black, the traditional deodorant was staining all my shirts with a horrible yellow hue, and I was getting these painful cysts from the conventional deodorants I was using. I was having such trouble that I decided to try the leading natural deodorant of the time: Tom’s of Maine, and… it was the stereotypical experience.

The smell of the deodorant itself was horrendous, and after 40 minutes, I would smell musty, sometimes even worse than before I used the product, and, as you can imagine, I was NOT about that life!

I did eventually discover Tom’s of Maine Apricot deodorant and loved the smell, but it still didn’t work thoroughly. If I forgot to bring the stick with me and was out and about for a few hours, the odor would catch me on the come up and I was forced to keep my arms down, uncomfortably wishing I could just disapparate!

The Awakened Ones

Needless to say, I understand where such unreasonable stereotypes come from. In the not-too-distant past natural and effective didn’t always merge as one. The good news, though, is that we as a people have woken up. Can’t you feel it? Did you recognize the shift? Things are widely different in recent years than they were in the early 2000’s and 90’s because of the procession of the equinox (check out Spirit Science to learn more!).

We Earthlings go through periods of consciousness when the earth reaches a certain point and periods of sleep or unconsciousness when it reaches another. In 2012 we hit that wake-up mark and yes, the world did end ;). It changed and so did we.

All these vegans, eco-conscious individuals, yogi’s, and natural-living lovers didn’t just erupt out of nowhere, you know! We just woke up. And a lucky thing indeed because it means more product-makers are in tune with the high, which makes their products complementary to our bodies!

There are more organic products on the market today than ever before, and the best part about it is that tons of them actually work! Now, I will say that the best deodorant I have ever used…ever, is the one that I make myself, but I like to try out a natural one every so often so that I can help out my readers who can’t stand the thought of DIY.

Jason

Jay-San Jay-San I’m your biggest fan! By this point you all know how much I love this brand! I use their toothpaste, mouthwash, and handwash on a daily basis and am romanced by their conditioner every single week! What they stand for inspires me and what they do makes me really happy + they have loads to choose from and I can’t wait to catch them all!.. er I mean try them all.

Jason’s Soothing Aloe Vera Deodorant Stick

Jason has a total of 5 different deodorant sticks: Soothing Aloe Vera, Nourishing Apricot, Purifying Tea Tree, Calming Lavender, Fragrance Free and 3 different roll-on’s: Purifying Tea Tree, Calming Lavender, and Soothing Aloe Vera. I have smelled all of them and they are each as delish as the next, with apricot being a special treat. However, I went ahead with the Soothing Aloe Vera deodorant stick because I wanted something to be delicate with the skin under my arms.

Scent

It smells lovely without having an artificial perfumey odor. I have the scent on me for about five hours until it just smells of nothing, no bad odor, but no sweet Soothing Aloe Vera smell either.

Protection

It works grand but I do always carry it in my bag in case I need to reapply. I usually apply in the morning and once again at the gym at around 5pm.

Sweat-Control

I can’t actually speak for this because I am, weirdly, one of those people who rarely sweats, especially under my arms. I will say that most natural deodorants cannot boast of sweat-control because that would mean having an artificial ingredient to block our sweat glands (which is why anti-perspirants are so bad!)

Long-lasting?

I bought my deodorant mid September 2017, it is now the end of April 2018, I have been using it every single day (for the purpose of letting you know my thoughts), and it isn’t even showing signs of getting to the end.

Material/Packaging

It is sturdy, and the apparatus that pushes the deodorant up is easy to use. However, in carrying it around in my purse for so long some of the writing has faded off and it isn’t very pretty (womp womp).

Other Specs

I never find any residue on my clothes but I like to give my arms a minute after application so as to not get any of the deodorant on my tops. The deodorant doesn’t melt or go too crazy when its in a hot place which is good to know for the deodorant-toting gal.

Ingredients

Propanediol, Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Sodium Stearate, Zinc Ricinoleate, Polyglyceryl-3 Caprate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Allantoin, Behenyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Silica, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sucrose Cocoate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Benzyl Benzoate, Hexyl Cinnamal, Fragrance (Parfum).
*Certified Organic

Cost

In store you can get them for about $5-7, online you can get them for $3-10 excluding shipping (unless you find a vendor with free shipping!)

Where to Buy

I bought mine at my local health shop here in Dublin but they are also available for great prices here on Amazon. You can also purchase them directly from Jason’s website where you can peruse the other fab products from the line.

My Thoughts

When it comes to the ingredient list I can’t help feeling disgruntled. I feel that my homemade deodorant works better, doesn’t require a second application at any point throughout the day, and has only 7 ingredients! Jason’s also has some unnecessary ingredients which when you compare it to another leading brand, Schmidts, you can see difference.

Schmidts Deodorant Ingredients: (Bergamot + Lime Stick): Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Citrus bergamia (bergamot) essential oil, Citrus aurantifolia (lime) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E)

Still, I do genuinely find that Jason’s deodorant is one to make the natural-deodorant community proud.

Best Natural Deodorant that Works?

No. Considering the fact that my homemade deo: shea butter, baking soda, lemon juice, lime juice, lemon essential oil, coconut oil, and beeswax works so much better, I can’t say that it is the best natural deodorant out there. When I find a deodorant that makes me want to ditch my homemade deodorant, then, and only then, will I name it the best natural deodorant that works.

Bottom Line

It’s a suitable deodorant and has some great attributes. There is so much that I like about Jason’s deodorant: the price, availability and durability. However, I’ve had better results with other products with cleaner ingredients. If you are not into DIY but want a clean, green product that works, I would recommend checking out Schmidts natural deodorant line. They work as good as my homemade mix and the ingredient list is just as loveable!

  4. Thank you so much for this article. Actually, this article is so attractive for women. Best deodorant is most important for women fragrance. I think this article is better than another article.

  5. I’ve tried Schmidt’s deodorant and it made my underarms break out in a very itchy rash. Jason’s doesn’t do that. I want to try your recipe, but I think the baking soda will cause a rash. Have you tried the recipe without it? Or do you have an alternative suggestion for that ingredient?
