Squatty Potty Reviews are all Lies?!- The Truth About the Stool Tool

Hello hello friends,

As natural living lovers it is important that we endeavor to stick to our natural state of being. We can do this by eliminating unnecessary toxins from our lives, meditating, decluttering our homes/environment (mind), eating healthier, opting for natural ingredients in products, thinking healthier.. basically by taking care of ourselves.

Is the Western Way Leading us Astray?

However taking care of ourselves is not always an easy feat when we are unaware of how to do so properly. For most of us westerners, there are so many things that we do simply because it has been the way for years. They then become ingrained in us and even if such methods cause us harm we continue to do/use them because it is the only way we know.

Toilet positioning is one of those things.

Natural Position vs Unnatural Position

In the eastern world, many countries use squat toilets aka the natural position toilet. See it’s pseudonym there? Natural- position. Squatting is the position that comes naturally to humans, it is the way that allows us to go properly (this is also the natural position when giving birth though such is not what we are accustomed to in contemporary times).

When we sit in a 90 degree angle we are basically pushing our unspeakables around a corner, making it more of a task to complete the job. This causes straining which leads to adverse colon health and symptoms from hemmoroids, anal fissures, colon disease, and IBM. These afflictions are not fun to live with and they aren’t easy either, however an increasing amount of people are dealing with such on a daily basis and have been for a great deal of their lives. To combat such effects some serious action must be taken!

Ok I’m not advocating for those toilets that are literally holes in the ground. No no, I feel that we have advanced in a way where we can use flush toilets but also be able to eliminate the bad posture associated with sitting at a wrong angle while we do our business. This can be achieved through the aid of a tool… a stool for your stool!

From The Dr’s review. Standing position (normal/neutral/not releasing bowels) .Sitting position releasing bowels. Squatting position releasing bowels.

Is Squatty Potty the Real Deal or a Marketing Scheme?

Now to answer that question in the title: Are all those glowing reviews on the trademarked Squatty Potty full of… crap? Absolutely.. not. Each review that I have read to date is filled with insurmountable evidence on the positive effects that have come about when introducing this stool tool into their lives, and my experience is no different.

Anyone who knows me and reads this review are probably gaping in disbelief :0 at this point because of my choice to write about a topic that is so far from my comfort zone. I am not a potty- talker per se and mentions of bowel movements and flatulence (though hilarious to all my nephews ) is not my idea of a fun conversation. However, this review was particularly important for me to write because it sheds light on something significant that brings us closer to our natural state, that encourages a healthy body.. and you know that’s what I am all about!

It was a friend who introduced me to the idea of squatting while going and since then I have been a habitual squatter (squats in the gym and squats on the tin). I did some research and uncovered much of the same info that I relayed here (only more thorough and some with photos that were disturbing) and also learned of the Squatty Potty.

Unless I’m mistaken (and someone please correct me if I am wrong) the makers of the Squatty Potty were pioneers in such a niche. This is a family- owned company who created the stool as a means to have a more natural, comfortable time whilst on the toilet.

They tried regular stools and buckets but none seemed to suffice so they created a stool that is easy to store, comfortable for both feet, and easy to use. Thus the Squatty Potty was born as well Dookie the unicorn- don’t ask.

You can check out their website here where they have tons of testimonials from other users, a segment on Health Network’s show the Dr’s discussing the stool, and some weird paraphernalia about Dookie the Unicorn who changed the way you poop (yeah I also really dislike that 4 letter word along with the one that begins with a D.. shudder).

Product Review

The Squatty Potty

Price: $22- 100 (on the website)

Cheapest Place to Buy: Amazon $20-75

Size: There are different sizes/ styles/ colors

My Rating: 10 out of 10

My Thoughts

I bought the plain white one when I first purchased (being a little cheap), but it went with the decor of my bathroom nonetheless and I was blown away by the results. There are at least 7 different styles, one is adjustable, and one is portable. They have a bamboo type, the regular white that I have, a black one, a teak- finish one, and a clear one called Squatty Potty Ghost. The varied choices are what I really dig about Squatty Potty because, hey, variety is the spice of life. You are not stuck with a plastic white stool which is important if you care a bit more about style and fitting in with your bathroom. However prices do jump up depending on the style that you choose with Squatty Potty Ghost and Squatty Potty Black landing at $99 on the website. You can have a look and get yours here free shipping for orders over $19.99. It is cheaper on Amazon with both of the higher end ones running at $74 and you can get the original for about $20.

How to use

You can either squat (hover very close to your toilet with both feet on the stool) or sit like normal but put both feet up to get in a position that is easier for your bowels to release. Slide into toilet after use.

The Good

  • It is so easy to go
  • Convenient
  • Easy to store
  • So comfortable
  • Helps with posture
  • Makes things quicker
  • Durable material (I have had it for about 6 months)

The Bad

  • Wrinkles up my rug when I pull it out
  • Might need an adjustment if on the tall or short side

Final Thoughts

Squatty Potty reviews are telling the truth when they say that this stool tool is amazing. I am going as far as saying that this product is necessary for all of us westerners who want to truly look after ourselves in the best way possible. I haven’t had more of a comfortable experience before including this potty in my life and I feel all the more healthier for making such a change. I like this quote but am not sure who said it first: “don’t force it.” This can be applied in all areas of life and is especially applicable for our BM’s (bowel movements). Go with the flow of your body and you will have a better, more natural experience. Squat, don’t sit! You can get your own Squatty Potty by visiting the official website above or by purchasing one here on Amazon. This is where I bought my own from. *you can buy other brands that are less expensive here $10+, though Squatty Potty spells quality and for that it has my seal of approval*

  1. Wow, what an informative article. I was wondering if this product was helpful or just hype. It seemed to make sense, but your review makes it clear. Thank you for tackling a dicey subject but one that is paramount to our health and well-being. You have a great website, and I will be bookmarking it to read more of your articles.

    1. Thanks Leroy! Certainly come back any time. I am so glad that this post helped in making more of an informed decision on this product and please let me know if you end up trying this out!

  2. I too am not a potty talker 🙂 But I have had this discussion with a friend or two. As you mentioned that more people are becoming aware of the proper position on going potty.
I am on iron supplement’s so I know first hand how much position mean’s.
I feel the potty stool is a wonderful product to get for my house to help train my grand children right away on the proper posture, do you feel that it would work good for kid’s?

    1. Yes I really love mine and even when I do not have it on hand have the proper position in mind. Certainly something spectacular for kids and really worth it to help train them for their future health!

  3. This is a great article on the squatty potty. I have been on the fence about these and you have really helped to explain how it really works, how our bodies are designed and why the squatty potty is good for us. Thank you!

  4. Wow! I never heard of this! I have always heard about the natural way our bodies are designed to sit during bowel movements has been altered by the modern toilets, but I didn’t know they created a device that can still give you the ability to do the “Doo” properly without hurting yourself. I will definitely check this out! Thanks for the info.

    1. You are welcome Liz thanks for reading this and for considering a way to go properly! So much about modern society that might not be best for our health but it is always worth it to consider alternative options!

  5. Manila, when I first started reading, I thought: What?!?!?! But then you made sense. And what brought me around is your argument about how squatting is a natural helping position for giving birth. Not that I adopted this position when I gave birth, as in fact I was very lazy, but I can certainly see your point.
Now, I have to say that the few ‘potty’ stools you show from Amazon vary in price and you can find some reasonably priced. But – and you are not going to like me here, but I have to ask – couldn’t anyone use a normal stool, like the one I use in my kitchen to reach out to my higher cupboard (being little)?
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Giulia, thanks for reading and for your comment! No, don’t worry I like your question and think that it is very reasonable! You can certainly use a normal stool instead of a squatty potty, however the difference between using a house stool and a potty stool is storage. The squatty potty is so effortless in the way that it stores just below the toilet, it fits in with the bathroom and this is why I prefer this to using something like a bucket or a stool. It also saves in you having to transport it from place to place as chances are the squatty potty will stay in the place that it belongs. That being said if you have one on hand its worth it to use it to help with proper positioning if you don’t mind it being in your way or transporting it from location to location 🙂
