bareMinerals Foundation Review- barePro, bareSkin or the Original?

Hola chicas! (and my makeup men)

Let’s get down to the nitty gritty!

You are in the market for a new foundation from the bareMinerals line. BareMinerals is your brand of choice because you know how committed the makers of this product are to healthy skincare. PLUS  you know the lengths they go in creating pure, nourishing cosmetics that benefit our skin in the long run.

Yes, all of that is a check, but which foundation is the best-est?! The powder, matte…liquid serum?

Here’s my take on 3 out of the 6 available foundations on the bareMinerals line.

Bareskin

Price: $30+ (retail)

Cheapest Place to Buy: Amazon (a bareminerals exec told me never to buy these products from eBay as there are fakes going round :/) $25

Size: 30ml/ 1 fl.oz

My Rating: 8.5 out of 10

I was extremely happy to try this one because I had been using powder since the beginning of my bareMinerals journey (2013).

This product is said to improve the skin tone of 100% of women, in a clinical study over 8 weeks, and reduce the appearance of dark spots in 95% of women in the same study.

I went into a shop that has a bareMinerals store inside and was matched with a bare nude shade. The ambassador tried a few different ones to get the match just right and we both agreed that bare nude was the winner.

You can match your shade online yourself by going to the official website here. I tried the foundation on again the next day and found that it peeled in places and did not have a seamless finish the way it did when it was professionally brushed on.

It is said that it works best with this brush but I now have great results using one of these simple beauties. It is a liquid/serum and you must shake before use then pour onto your brush of choice and paint that gorgeous mug. This would be a 10 if it didn’t do the peely thing at times.

Pros: smooth glide, weightlessness, the ingredients, evens complexion

Cons: peeling in some places (my forehead and next to nose), must wait until it dries or else has wet feel, more likely to come off on clothes or hands.

Only bareSkin on..
Only bareSkin on.. forgive the eyebrows!

BarePro

Price: $30+ (retail)

Cheapest Place to Buy: Amazon ($25)

Size: 10g/ 0.34 oz

My Rating: 10 out of 10

My best fwend! This is more of a matte finish, which I’m crazy about (aren’t we all). People who buy this usually purchase the barePro performance foundation core coverage brush and though I usually resent products that supposedly are meant to be used with another product (as I’m convinced they are just trying to make me buy more!), I couldn’t agree with how complementary these two are.

I love this brush as much as the foundation.. my other best fwend! You can take this brush anywhere as it has a handy cap that slides down when not in use.

Powder comes in a nicely made compact case that makes a cool sound when it closes, it has a mirror and a white powder applicator underneath, which I have never used.

I have warm light as my shade of choice and what I like best is that it has full coverage, but doesn’t look like I have any makeup on. It feels very nice when going on as well.

A makeup professional at bareMinerals told me that this product can get quite dry and suggested I use it in tandem with the bareSkin liquid foundation that I bought some time before. I tried the two together and found that it showed signs of peeling.

When I use barePro on its own, I don’t find that my face gets dry. I usually prep it with rose water or bareMinerals primerwhich sidebar, is amazing, but most times is far too expensive for me to actually push myself to buy, for such a tiny thang.

Pros: smooth finish, doesn’t cake, breathable, lasts all day, flawless and air- brushed look, the ingredients

Cons: doesn’t cover under my eyes as well as bareSkin

BareMinerals Original Foundation

Price: $30+ (retail)

Cheapest Place to Buy: Amazon ($22+)

Size: 8g/ 0.28 oz

My Rating: 8 out of 10

This was the first foundation I ever tried in the whole of my life, so of course there is a bit of a soft spot for it.

It is powder that you pour into the cap, swirl with a brush then buff on to your face. This product is renowned for its effortless glide, purity of ingredients, and SPF protection.

Compared with the other two, I find that this one is not as exciting to use. That might be due to the fact that it is the one that I have used for the longest, but it has good qualities nonetheless.

I like that it has coverage but does not have that cakey look and the way that it stays on my face without rubbing off or getting on my clothing.

Pros: the ingredients, the glide, the effortless look, improves complexion

Cons: can make a mess if not careful, does not cover under eye as well as a liquid, does not last as long as some of the other foundations, not such a full coverage

The Overall

Of all three of these, my favorite is barePro and I would definitely recommend this if interested in one of these foundations.

That being said, I do like to mix it up and use the bareSkin from time to time when I want more of a made-up look. The original foundation and barePro are great for more of a natural look so it wholly depends on what you are after.

*tip* want a natural makeup remover that isn’t as hefty on your pockets as bareMineral’s super amazing one? Try coconut oil, as it removes all makeup like no other product, and does amazing things to your skin at the same time!

There are 6 different types of bareMinerals foundation: Blemish Remedy Foundation, Original Foundation, Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream, BarePro Performance Wear Powder Foundation, Matte Foundation, and BareSkin Foundation… SOOOOO which one is your favorite?!

I’ll be checking out the three that I haven’t tried yet and let you know my ratings on each. Be sure to check back for that review, NaturalBeauties!

  1. I really enjoyed this review, Manika- Nia Dixon. You are really honest in what you say, I like that 🙂 Even though I’m not a woman, my partner will find this article helpful. She’s always on the lookout for makeup 😛 Based on your ratings, I’m guessing BarePro is the best one out of all of these, am I correct? Or not?

    Cheers,
    Brandon

  2. I really enjoyed reading this article! I use Mac foundation but I think I want to start using this now! I’m not sure if I want to continue using Mac products!!! Thank you for sharing all of your information!!! You look beautiful by the way!!

    1. Hi Malaika, thank you so much for your comment and for reading! I have heard that Mac is really good and Mac users swear by it, but if you are after something more natural, then I would certainly give bareMinerals a try, I am very happy with it!
