Natural Conditioner for Curly Hair- The One Conditioner Every Curly Woman Should Know About
Hola Handbook Hunnies!
The NHF fairies and I want to wish you all a splendeforous #NaturalHairFriday no matter what day it is when you read this! Today we have a super special post that all of you curly beauties will sincerely love because its about that which none of us should be living without: conditioner!
Conditioner is the bread and butter of a curly queen and we so need its magic to keep our garden flawless. There are a lot of choices out there and there are plenty of many of great ones, but it is my pleasure to present you with one that has my BIG stamp of approval. It is by the hard-hitting product-makers, JĀSÖN, so you know its something to be excited about.
I’ve written about JĀSÖN in many posts here at HNLH because they treat my body so nice and the result is a healthier and happier me. I’ve even been using their deodorant which is pretty remarkable considering how in love I am with my homemade deodorant. I think that says a lake-full about how satisfied I am with their products.Their conditioner is no exception as it truly takes satisfaction to another level. Thus far I have tried x3 conditioners from their line and while all have smelled nice, contained more than suitable ingredients, and worked well in moisturizing my hair, none has been quite as revolutionary as JĀSÖN Smoothing Sea Kelp conditioner.

How Smoothing Sea Kelp and I Became 1
Our relationship actually began through a funny circumstance. There I was in my local health food shop to re-up on my Jason conditioner when a big decision befell me. The shelf held the conditioner that I was nearly out of, the Long and Strong Jojoba, but two others caught my eye, the Volumizing Lavender and the Smoothing Sea Kelp. I couldn’t decide what to do. Should I stick with the conditioner that had been going so well for me? Venture out and try a new one? If so which new venture would I embark on? After some deliberation, I decided to ask the shop attendant for her opinion.
“Excuse me, do you use any of these conditioners?”
“Yes I use quite a few of them actually”
“Oh great! Which would you recommend between the Volumizing Lavender and Smoothing Sea Kelp?”
And that’s when I saw it. It was NHF, you see, and I had popped into the shop to pick up my materials for my after-gym NHF treatment. My hair was up in a pineapple-ish loose bun and oh yes I saw it. She looked up at my hair and her words were:
“Well that one is better for taming messy hair..”
I must’ve given her some kind of look because she then began to splutter,
“I-I have really curly, frizzy messy hair too and I like ones that can really control it”
Pffffft! Control?! Tame! messy?! My hair is a free garden, woman, and so should yours be (her “curls” were masked by the straightening job she likely did that morning)! I can’t remember saying much more to the woman who preferred to tame her curls and focused my attention back on my big decision. I half wanted to buy the Lavender just out of spite especially as the Smoothing Sea Kelp said “tames and smoothes frizzy hair” straight on the bottle, but I went with God and ended up walking out with the Smoothing Sea Kelp (after paying of course)… And it was one of the best things I ever did! The Jojoba conditioner was sweet, smelled wonderful and helped me have some good and even great hair days. But this Smoothing Sea Kelp was quite literally made for my curls and all my curl girls!

Costs
I pay about €8 (around $10) for a 16oz at my local but you can get the same price without the hassle of finding a shop or leaving your front door on that good ole Amazon. It lasts me about two months which I think is pretty spectacular considering the amount I use each week.

Smoothing Sea Kelp as I Leave in?
I’ve come to learn that if it is a botanical/natural conditioner then you can certainly leave it in your hair until your next wash/cleanse day and then repeat the process. With this conditioner I 100% use it as a leave-in and find that my hair is loving the protection and extra moisture it gives. I even apply a bit more of this before putting my gel for the week just for good measure.
Smoothing Sea Kelp as Regular Conditioner?
This is actually a regular conditioner so it is more than feasible to suggest that you can use it as something other than a leave-in. However, make sure that the conditioner is in your hair for ample time before rinsing out so that your hair can reap all the benefits. If you fall in type 1-2 hair pattern and do not wish to use as a leave-in, leave it in your hair for 20 minutes to an hour (or as long as you can) before rinsing.

Jason Smoothing Sea Kelp on my Hair
Here is a quick brief of how I use this conditioner. I usually braid my hair on Thursday night or Friday morning into two braids after massaging my scalp with Jamaican Black Castor Oil and applying Dabur Amla Hair Oil throughout my hair. After the gym I take down the plaits and proceed with my shower. I use a conditioner to wash my hair and sometimes Apple Cider Vinegar for a full cleanse. At the moment I am using Vatika Naturals Sweet Almond Conditioner as my co-wash. This particular conditioner smells great but wasn’t doing it for me as a leave-in and thats where the Smoothing Sea Kelp fills the void. I co-wash, then separate my hair into two sections. Whilst soaking wet I apply Jason’s conditioner to one side until it is fully saturated. I use a wide-tooth comb and my fingers to make sure the hair is combed through properly. I repeat on the other side. Then I step out of the shower. Its important that all my supplies are on hand at this point! I use a bit more conditioner on both sections, combing through with my fingers as I go and paying particular attention to the back. Then I take my gel/jelly of choice and apply that to each section by raking through with my fingers. Once the products are evenly distributed I go to where my microbfiber towel is laid out and plop my hair so that it dries faster and encourages a bouncy finish. That is it!

Final Thoughts
I have tried many conditioners and so many have been awesome. But the one that I can say infallibly, without a doubt that every curly woman should know about and try at least once is this Smoothing Sea Kelp. It is thick and yet my hair feels weightless all week, my hair has this incredible bounce, the conditioner plugs in the holes and locks in moisture so that my hair doesn’t seek extra moisture in the air (aka frizz up!), and days after NHF I still feel as fresh as day 1 and 2. Every curly queen knows that the secret to flawless curls is conditioner.conditioner.conditioner and if your current one is making you believe otherwise, trust me when I say, it is time to go Jason Smoothing Sea Kelp shopping!
