14 Yummy Foods That Balance Chakras
Hello hello beautiful people!
Hope your day is going amazing and hope you have been smiling through, feeling good, thinking good thoughts, and flowing good energy. Today I want to talk about some delicious food that we can eat to balance and align our precious chakras, but first..
What are Chakras?
A quick google search will reveal that chakras are “(in Indian thought) each of the centers of spiritual power in the human body, usually considered to be seven in number”
The direct definition of chakra comes from the Sanskrit word meaning wheel and this wheel, placed at different points in our body draws in and emits energy.
Though there are 7 main ones, really there are 7, 8, or 13 chakras depending on how you look at the body. If that sounds confusing, watch this brief video from Spirit Science that expertly outlines what chakras are, why they are important, ways to align them, and the difference between the 7, 8, or 13.
What we will be focusing on in this post are the 7 main chakras that are connected with different parts of the body. These 7 are the centers in our bodies in which energy flows through. If any of the chakras are blocked we can see symptoms manifest such as illness, pain, and bad moods and these are always felt on a mental, emotional or physical level. This shows just how connected the mind, body and spirit (the whole of what we are) truly are. This is why it is so very important to look after our chakras and make sure that they are in perfect harmony.
I don’t want to get super deep or anything but this stuff is really cool. No, seriously, when you look into it more its like on a cosmic level of “wowness.” These chakras match up with the spectrum of light that make up all the colors that we know of. If you were to take a prism and shine pure light on it, the light would break into familiar colors, 7 familiar colors to be exact.
- red
- orange
- yellow
- green
- blue
- indigo
- violet
Why We Should Care
In terms of chakras and placement on the body, these work from the bottom up and every color has its own vibration wheel which both sucks in and emits energy.
When one of these wheels is out of alignment we see problems manifest and such imbalance can spread to other parts of our chakras thus causing a shaky situation in our lives. Chakras represent the whole of our mind, body and spirit and we need to look after each to look after the whole, its that simple. The question is how do we open up each chakra and make sure that we maintain a great balance? There are tons of ways to do it, but one of the easiest ways is in food choices- isn’t that so incredible? We can balance out our lives by eating scrumptious foodies?! Woman, isn’t life so grand! Now as I said above, the chakras work from the bottom up, so beginning with red and ending at violet (which is seen at the top of the body).
Delectable Foods that Balance out the Chakras
Root Chakra
The first chakra (red) is survival and this governs the adrenal glands . This chakra is known to be our roots, that which connects us to the physical world. When out of alignment, we can often feel stressed and out of place in our body. For this to be in alignment, we want foods that will help us to stay grounded, and vegetables of the earth are always a fab choice to get the job done. Two top yummy foods to balance this chakra is garlic and parsnips, could it get any better?
Sacral Chakra
The second chakra (orange) is sex or interaction and is connected to the gonads. This chakra governs sexuality and emotions so you can imagine what can happen when this is out of whack. To balance this second of chakras drinking plenty of water can really do the trick and of course eating a tasty orange food like oranges and orange- colored sweet potatoes… mmmm
*My sweet potato recipe*
Chop the sweet potatoes into circles (or whatever shape you like) put them in a baking tray and add some salt and pepper seasoning with a bit of chili flakes and sprinkle some cinnamon and nutmeg on top, use your nose to ensure that it is seasoned nicely then pour coconut oil over it (if melted) or add a few spoonfuls of cocoonut oil if stiil chunky. Shake it up in the pan to make sure all the ingredients hug every potato. Bake in an oven with tin foil or pan lid over it and periodically check it for softness. Once they are soft remove the lid and let them crisp up in the oven. Flip them on the other side until you have crispy, tasty, yum-licious sweet potatoes.
Solar Plexus Chakra
The third chakra (yellow) is related to power or ego and is connected to the pancreas. A balanced third chakra means that our self- esteem is in- tact and when out of alignment, some unfortunate feelings can manifest. This chakra is related to our joy! As you’ll come to find with this list, eating foods that match our chakra colors are incredible ways to charge each and give them that incredible boost to balance them. Its no surprise then that the two yummy foods that make this list are bananas and yellow peppers.
Heart Chakra
The fourth chakra (green) is our love chakra located at the heart and connects to the heart. This chakra rules love and relationships and when in harmony we are able to give and receive love on a beautiful level. This chakra is green so of course we are spoiled for choice with the greens that balance this baby out. Green veggies are the ones for this task and on this list is four yummy foods instead of two! The delicious, superfood broccoli (literally cannot go a day without eating this), super healthy spinach, taste- worthy cilantro (coriander), and the leafy green kale. To really balance this fourth one out, though, I would recommend juicing your favorite cruciferous green vegetables and watch how rejuvenated you feel.
Throat Chakra
The fifth chakra (blue) is expression and is connected to the thyroid, this one is located at the throat and is the center for communication. Blueberries and apples make our yummy list for this chakra and both give an incredible boost to our ability to express ourselves. A big bowl of blueberries will balance out this chakra but fruits that grow on trees are equally beneficial as they are thought to be the epitome of perfect expression: falling at the perfect time (when ripe) and being ready just as they are.
Third Eye Chakra
The sixth chakra (indigo) is the third eye chakra, the psychic and intuitive chakra that connects to the pituitary gland. To balance this sacred chakra, we can eat yummy foods like red grapes and eggplant.
*Into vegetarian food?* Try a eggplant spaghetti… mmm!
The Crown Chakra
The seventh chakra (violet) is the crown chakra, located at the top of our head, this is the spiritual part of our being and connects to the pineal gland. This one is very special as it connects the body and the soul in this sacred kind of way. If out of whack, manifestations such as muscular problems and depression are likely to come to the forefront, so maintaining a balance here is as important as the rest of our chakras. To really align this chakra it’s important that we eat our thoughts. What do I mean by that? Well I suppose I mean eat nothing else… fast, if you will! Those versed in chakras advise not to eat foods to balance this seventh chakra out. Fasting and detoxing are thought to link us with that crown and help for an almighty balance. To balance this, consider taking a day to cleanse, light some incense and give your body a break from all foods, and see how connected you feel to the whole of the universe.

I’ve never read about chakras before in such a delicious way! I love your explanation and the foods to go along with the chakras. I’ve dabbled with health classes on this subject, but by no means and expert. As a health coach, I like to be aware of different healing modalities that might resonate with my clients. Thanks for a great explanation.
Hi Linda, thank you for the lovely comment! Love your use of the word delicious! That is awesome that you have dabbled with health classes on this subject, after learning about it did you partake in eating certain foods for your chakras?
Wow! While I am a big fan of “eating the rainbow” I never considered that the color of food matches the color of the chakras. That’s pretty cool stuff. I like knowing things like this because it brings a mindfulness to eating. Thanks for the information.
Your very welcome Susie! Thanks so much for reading, yes eating the colors of the rainbow are directly linked with aligning the chakras and I think that is some pretty cool stuff as well! Anyway its good for us on so many levels 🙂
